Email is your wise, older confidant

Published on Whom is it that you rely on for teaching you life’s greatest lessons? Maybe a parent, a religious leader, or even an old professor. This person may have many years on you. However, with age comes wisdom. Email has been around since 1971. That’s right; it’s as old as the 26th amendment, Dirty Harry, and Mark Wahlberg, who’s not old, but certainly not as young as Suri Cruise, born in 2006, the same year as Twitter.

Just as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook, of the newer social media age, have improved each year they’ve been around, email has improved each year as well. The difference is email has been around three decades longer and has experienced three decades more of improvements. It started as an electronic message sent from one individual to another. Overtime, email has transformed into a data machine, educating organizations on their audiences’ preferences, digital habits, and response/conversion patterns.

Fortunately, email has an infinite lifespan with usage only growing, since it was created. It's the connective tissue to the digital world. Your email address is your digital ID that is required to connect to Facebook, to Twitter, to LinkedIn, to your favorite news site. It’ll be there for the next big thing, as it has always has been. Email is our wise, older confidant; we must rely on it as it continues to make us smarter.
